Being Indian origin is not necessarily a thing to celebrate
Why fawning over foreign nationals of Indian origin like Kamala Harris without doing any background check is a bad thing
The Indian news outlets have the tendency to praise any person who gets prominent position in foreign nations, just because of their Indian origins. In the hurry of giving praise for their Indian-ness (over which they have no control of), they ignore the wrong doings done by them in the past, effectively whitewashing all the wrongdoings of the past and presenting them as some kind of inspiration. This sensation is even more in regional media because of the language bias. The top example:
Kamala Harris
One name which stood out after the 2020 US election, mainly in Indian media was Kamala Devi Harris, the first Vice President of Indian origin. As soon as she was announced as running mate for Joe Biden in August 2020, the so called most prominent Indian outlets started going frenzy about her. The strange thing about the legacy media in India is they assume they speak on behalf of the people. Here is a line from The Hindu’s article:
There is a palpable excitement, bordering on frenzy, in India on the nomination of Kamala Harris as the running mate of Joe Biden in the November U.S. elections.
Now observe the wordings, according to The Hindu, their excitement is provided as whole of India’s excitement. Similar pattern of wordings can be seen in Indian Express article which declares Indian-Americans are delighted (meaning the media is delighted). This can be easily misleading as majority of Indians had and still have no clue of who Kamala Harris is. In another article in Economic Times, the ET fawn’s over her history with Chennai, even though she downplays her Indian origin.
It is important to note that she was also running as a presidential candidate in the Democratic party. The Indian media quietly (purposely) left out the part why she withdrew from the race because she was polling poorly thanks to another candidate Tulsi Gabbard, who destroyed Kamala in the debate on her past record as Attorney General of California. Protected Christian clergy accused of sex crimes, accused Joe Biden as a racist, and then said “it was a debate” when asked about it. She has been very pro censorship on social media advocating for removal of Trump from Twitter in 2019. The list goes on…….
Kamala Harris is the least likeable person for VP, the media has turned her into an achiever without actually listing her achievements of past but only relying on her bi racial identity. She has been a critic of CAA and revoking of article 370. I leave you with this title, make of it what you will:
